ऋषि सँग हरषि चले दोउ भाई। पितु-पद बंदि सीस लियो आयसु, सुनि सिष आसिष पाई॥ १ ॥ नील पीत पाथोज बरन बपु, बय किसोर बनि आई। सर धनु-पानि, पीत पट कटितट, कसे निखंग बनाई॥ २ ॥ कलित कंठ मनि-माल, कलेवर चंदन खौरि सुहाई। सुंदर बदन, सरोरुह-लोचन, मुखछबि बरनि न जाई॥ ३ ॥ पल्लव, पंख, सुमन सिर सोहत क्यों कहाँ बेष-लुनाई?। मनु मूरति धरि उभय भाग भइ त्रिभुवन सुंदरताई॥ ४ ॥ पैठत सरनि, सिलनि चढ़ि चितवत, खग-मृग-बन रुचिराई। सादर सभय सप्रेम पुलकि मुनि पुनि-पुनि लेत बुलाई॥ ५ ॥ एक तीर तकि हती ताड़का, बिद्या बिप्र पढ़ाई। राख्यो जग्य जीति रजनीचर, भइ जग-बिदित बड़ाई॥ ६ ॥ चरन-कमल-रज-परस अहल्या, निज पति-लोक पठाई। तुलसिदास प्रभुके बूझे मुनि सुरसरि कथा सुनाई॥ ७ ॥
The two brothers gladly set out with the sage. Bowing at their father's feet, they place his command upon their heads; hearing his instruction, they receive his blessing. (1) Their bodies have the hues of blue and yellow lotuses, and adolescence has arrived. Bows and arrows are in their hands; yellow cloth is at their waists, with quivers firmly fastened. (2) Gemmed garlands adorn their throats, and streaks of sandalwood grace their bodies. Their faces are beautiful, their eyes lotuses; the beauty of their countenances cannot be told. (3) Fresh leaves, feathers, and flowers shine upon their heads—how could the loveliness of their attire be spoken? It is as though the beauty of the three worlds took form and divided itself into two. (4) They enter lakes, climb rocks, and gaze upon the beauty of birds, deer, and forest. Respectful, fearful, loving, and thrilled, the sage calls them back again and again. (5) The brahmin teaches them the science of weapons; taking aim, Rāma kills Tāḍakā with a single arrow. Defeating the night-roamers, he guards the sacrifice, and his greatness becomes renowned throughout the world. (6) By the touch of dust from his lotus-feet, he sends Ahalyā to her husband's realm. Tulsīdāsa says: when the Lord asks, the sage tells the story of the celestial river. (7)
