चहत महामुनि जाग जयो। नीच निसाचर देत दुसह दुख, कृस तनु ताप तयो॥ १ ॥ सापे पाप, नये निदरत खल, तब यह मंत्र ठयो। बिप्र-साधु-सुर-धेनु-धरनि-हित हरि अवतार लयो॥ २ ॥ सुमिरत श्रीसारंगपानि छनमें सब सोच गयो। चले मुदित कौसिक कोसलपुर, सगुननि साथ दयो॥ ३ ॥ करत मनोरथ जात पुलकि, प्रगटत आनंद नयो। तुलसी प्रभु-अनुराग उमगि मग मंगल मूल भयो॥ ४ ॥
The great sage longs for his sacrifice to succeed. Base night-roamers inflict unbearable pain; scorched by distress, his body has grown thin. (1) If he curses them, he incurs sin; if he yields, the villains scorn him. Then this resolve takes shape: “For the welfare of brahmins, holy people, gods, cows, and Earth, Hari has taken incarnation.” (2) The moment he remembers Śrī Śārṅgapāṇi, all his sorrow departs. Gladly Kauśika sets out for the city of Kosala, and auspicious signs accompany him. (3) He travels fashioning hopes; as his body thrills, ever-new joy appears. Tulsī says: surging with loving attachment to the Lord, the road becomes the very root of auspiciousness. (4)
