Morning has come, child; Mother offers herself upon your moon-face and would offer ten million Loves—rise, beloved of my life! Heralds, genealogists, and bards recite your praises; at the door stand your younger brothers and dearest child-friends. (1) Seeing the moon's beauty fade, the cakravāka birds are freed from sorrow; stars of lovely light shine in the reddening sky. It is as though the young lion of the sun crushed the elephant-host of darkness and scattered its exceedingly lovely pearls. (2) Listen: roosters call, and parrots, royal swans, cuckoos, peacocks, and young birds fill the air with song. O jewel of Raghu's line, it is as though companies of sages, together with their families, were meditating upon your virtues in their hermitages. (3) Clusters of lotuses open upon the lakes, and for their excellent nectar the bees make their loveliest, sweetest hum. It is as though, hearing of the Lord's birth, Amarāvatī celebrates and Lakṣmī has adorned her mansions of joy. (4) Hearing this fine composition of words suffused with love, Rāma opens his lotus-eyes. Servant Tulsī rejoices; his mother performs the ārati as the naturally beautiful Lord sets foot in the courtyard. (5)
