ललित सुतहि लालति सचु पाये। कौसल्या कल कनक अजिर महँ सिखवति चलन अँगुरियाँ लाये॥ १ ॥ कटि किंकिनी, पैजनी पायनि बाजति रुनझुन मधुर रेंगाये। पहुँची करनि, कंठ कठुला बन्यो केहरि नख मनि-जरित जराये॥ २ ॥ पीत पुनीत बिचित्र झँगुलिया सोहति स्याम सरीर सोहाये। दँतियाँ द्वै-द्वै मनोहर मुख छबि, अरुन अधर चित लेत चोराये॥ ३ ॥ चिबुक कपोल नासिका सुंदर, भाल तिलक मसिबिंदु बनाये। राजत नयन मंजु अंजनजुत खंजन कंज मीन मद नाये॥ ४ ॥ लटकन चारु भ्रुकुटिया टेढ़ी, मेढ़ी सुभग सुदेस सुभाये। किलकि किलकि नाचत चुटकी सुनि, डरपति जननि पानि छुटकाये॥ ५ ॥ गिरि घुटुरुवनि टेकि उठि अनुजनि तोतरि बोलत पूप देखाये। बाल-केलि अवलोकि मातु सब मुदित मगन आनंद न अमाये॥ ६ ॥ देखत नभ घन-ओट चरित मुनि जोग समाधि गिरति बिसराये। तुलसिदास जे रसिक न यहि रस ते नर जड़ जीवत जग जाये॥ ७ ॥
Having truly gained her lovely son, she fondles him. In her beautiful golden courtyard Kausalyā holds out her fingers and teaches him to walk. (1) As he moves slowly, the little bells at his waist and anklets on his feet ring sweetly. Bracelets on his hands, a necklace at his throat, and a tiger-claw charm set and studded with gems look beautiful. (2) A pure and wondrous yellow tunic shines upon his beautiful dark body. Two little teeth at a time grace his lovely face, while his red lips steal the heart. (3) His chin, cheeks, and nose are lovely; a forehead-mark and dot of collyrium adorn his brow. His beautiful, collyrium-darkened eyes shine, humbling the pride of wagtail, lotus, and fish. (4) A lovely pendant, arched brows, and a beautifully braided lock sit becomingly in their places. Hearing his mother snap her fingers, he crows and dances; when he lets go of her hand, she grows afraid. (5) When he falls, he braces himself on his knees and rises; shown a sweet cake, he calls his younger brothers in lisping speech. Beholding this childhood play, all the mothers are delighted and absorbed; their joy cannot fit within them. (6) From behind the clouds in the sky, sages watch these deeds, forgetting yoga, samādhi, and detachment. Tulsīdāsa says: those who do not savor this rasa are dull people whose lives pass uselessly in the world. (7)
