अवध आजु आगमी एकु आयो। करतल निरखि कहत सब गुनगन, बहुतन्ह परिचौ पायो॥ १ ॥ बूढ़ो बड़ो प्रमानिक ब्राह्मन संकर नाम सुहायो। सँग सिसुसिष्य, सुनत कौसल्या भीतर भवन बुलायो॥ २ ॥ पायँ पखारि, पूजि दियो आसन, असन बसन पहिरायो। मेले चरन चारु चार्यो सुत, माथे हाथ दिवायो॥ ३ ॥ नखसिख बाल बिलोकि बिप्रतनु पुलक, नयन जल छायो। लै लै गोद कमल-कर निरखत, उर प्रमोद न अमायो॥ ४ ॥ जनम प्रसंग कह्यो, कौसिक मिस सीय-स्वयंबर गायो। राम, भरत, रिपुदवन, लखनको जय सुख सुजस सुनायो॥ ५ ॥ तुलसिदास रनिवास रहसबस, भयो सबको मन भायो। सनमान्यो महिदेव, असीसत सानंद सदन सिधायो॥ ६ ॥
Today a knower of sacred lore has come to Ayodhyā. By looking at a palm he tells every virtue; many have found his words proven. (1) He is an aged, highly trustworthy Brahmin with the lovely name Śaṅkara. Hearing that child-disciples accompany him, Kausalyā summons him inside the palace. (2) They wash and worship his feet, give him a seat and food, and clothe him. They place all four lovely sons at his feet and have his hand laid upon their heads. (3) Looking at the children from head to foot, the Brahmin's body thrills and tears cover his eyes. Taking each into his lap and examining their lotus-hands, he cannot contain his heart's joy. (4) He recounts the circumstances of their birth and sings of Sītā's svayaṃvara under the pretext of Kauśika's mission. He tells the future victory, happiness, and fair fame of Rāma, Bharata, Śatrughna, and Lakṣmaṇa. (5) Tulsīdāsa says: the women's palace is overcome with delight, for his words please every heart. They honor the Brahmin, and he blesses them and joyfully returns home. (6)
