After oiling, rubbing, and bathing them, they line the children's eyes and lovingly make a long tilak of yellow gorocanā. An incomparable dot of kohl rests above each brow; tiny locks shine upon their heads, stealing the heart of whoever looks. (1) Seeing Sumitrā hold and fondle them in a lap filled with delight, the gods say, “Everyone's merit has borne fruit.” Blessed are mother, father, loved ones, household, and townspeople, who gaze upon this mass of merit and drink the nectar of love. (2) Their small, lovely, crimson lotus-feet are beautiful; fine poets' hearts live by longing for the beauty of their gait. Tossed by the breeze of childhood play, the child flickers and gleams— a lamp of form set upon beauty's lampstand. (3) By reverently singing and hearing the lovely deeds of the child Rāma and his brothers, good people have gained the profit of human birth. Tulsī says: apart from Daśaratha, in all fourteen worlds Fate fashioned no other union with happiness such as this. (4)
