Daśaratha, filled with supreme delight, holds the child Rāma in his lap; Kausalyā eagerly takes dear Lakṣmaṇa. Sumitrā takes Bharata and Kaikeyī the foe-subduer; their bodies thrill with love and their minds are immersed in joy. (1) Gem-and-gold pendants hang from the children's little braids; fine childhood ornaments have been made and set upon every limb. Gazing, cooing, kissing, fondling, and drawing them to the heart, they reap fruits exactly like the excellent seeds they sowed. (2) From behind the clouds the gods look on and shower flowers, speaking favorable words with ever-new affection. It seems that throughout his lifetime Fate fashioned no parents, sons, wives, or household other than these. (3) “Be ageless and deathless”; “May Hari and Hara show you favor”— so the elderly men and women give their blessings. Tulsī praises the fortune of those whose hearts remain dyed in love for the form of Rāma as a little child. (4)
