[The priest continues the bride's lineage declaration:] Of the Gautama gotra, descended from the three pravara sages Gautama, Angirasa, and Ayasya; great-granddaughter in the stated line, granddaughter of the illustrious Hrasvaroma, and daughter of the illustrious Siradhvaja. With purified hands I seek the refuge of this rite. May blessing attend the bride and groom. At the auspicious moment of kanyadana, the giver of the bride should recite this formula.
Kanyadana
Beholding the taking of hands, Brahma, the gods, human beings, and sages were filled with joy. Seeing the bride and groom, the very roots of happiness, the royal couple thrilled in every limb and their hearts overflowed. Following the ordinances of both worldly custom and the Vedas, the jewel among kings performed the gift of his daughter. As Himavan gave Girija to Mahesha, and the Ocean gave Sri to Hari, so Janaka entrusted Sita to Rama and renewed his stainless fame throughout the world. What entreaty could Videha make? His bodiless state had been stolen away by love. The sacred fire-rite was performed according to rule, their garments were knotted together, and the wedding rounds were about to begin. Cries of victory, praises from the bards, Vedic chanting, auspicious songs, and kettledrums resounded. The sages rejoiced; Hari rejoiced; the wise gods showered flowers.
Pada 67
Blessed, blessed is Queen Sunaina's courtyard, where bride and bridegroom sit! The pavilion is Mithila's own Manasarovar, exceedingly pure and beautiful; within it sits a pair of swans—the bride and bridegroom. On one side hangs the groom's wedding crown, while on the other the bride draws out her veil; between them the arrows of their glances dart and flash. All the messages of love have gathered there—lotus blossom upon lotus flower.
