Translation of page 66

Videha's breast seems ready to burst; he is maddened by the course of his love—how can anyone sing adequately of the taking of hands?

Pada 68

Father has tucked up his garment and seated himself in the pavilion—father, do not give your daughter away! Beneath the bridegroom's lotus hand lies Lali's hand; flowers and betel leaves shine between them. Guru Vasishtha recites the mantras, and Sri Rama repeats them. All the companions join in auspicious song, while the gods repeatedly shower flowers. Mother Sunaina sobs and sobs: “Today my daughter has become a stranger to me. The daughter for whose sake I danced and delighted—she too has become a stranger to me.” “Be still, Mother Sunaina; this is indeed the way of the world.”

Gathbandhan — Pada 69

Rama Chandra, lord of the three worlds, is the bridegroom who delights every heart; Lali, the bride, is tender Sita—the wedding knot has been tied. This bond is the noose of love; Rama's bracelet bears witness to it; Lali is a golden vine, and the supremely radiant Raghunandan is the tree she clasps. Bridegroom and bride sit together upon a single seat; the gods shower flowers, and many instruments resound. Latika joins the married women in singing songs of blessing: “May all four couples live age after age; may Mithila be filled with blessing!”

The Wedding Rounds

Prince and princess take their graceful wedding rounds; all reverently receive the blessing of the sight. No words can describe that captivating pair; whatever comparison one might offer would be too little.
