May there be well-being. The supremely noble one— devoted to joyous reflection, virtuous conduct, study of the true scriptures, and illumination of assemblies of learned people; of the Vashishtha gotra and the single pravara of Vashishtha; great-grandson of the illustrious Nabhaga Varman, grandson of the illustrious Aja Varman, and son of the illustrious Dasharatha Varman— stands with folded hands and seeks refuge. May auspiciousness attend this handsome bridegroom and bride. Thus the groom’s lineage is to be recited three times.

Now the Bride’s Side

Om. Peace, peace, peace.

Victorious is the lovely lotus foot of Janak’s daughter, worshiped by Hari, Hara, and Brahma and faithfully served by seekers; its clustered nails shine, its toes are encircled by rings, and the greatest sages and lords of yoga contemplate it within their hearts.

Success and victory to Rama, the bee drinking nectar from the pollen of Sri Sita’s lotus feet; whose broad forehead shines beneath curling locks, a tilak, and a garland of dark hair; whose cloud-dark body gleams with the cool beauty of the moon, whose incomparable face is an ocean of delight, supreme jewel among dancers and urbane heroes, son of Dasharatha and bee captivated by Janaki’s happiness.

There was a king named Nimi, renowned by his deeds throughout the three worlds, supremely righteous and foremost among all beings. His son was named Mithi, by whom the city of Mithila was founded.
