Pada 54
Hold the bridegroom’s sheet, friend, and lead him around the sacred altar. Lest the evil eye fall upon the bridegroom, friend, perform a protective charm.
Lest the bridegroom stumble, friend, lead him gently; lest delusion overpower the beloved boy, fasten a charm about his throat.
Says Anandlata: hold the bridegroom’s sheet, friend, and lead him around the sacred altar.
Inspection of the Bride — Pada 55
How could I taunt the elder brother of such a bridegroom? He has brought so many splendid garments and ornaments!
A forehead pendant, a flower ornament upon the head, and a lovely pearl-set nose-ring; earrings, a floral ear-jewel, and a charming gem upon the nose.
A pea-shaped necklace and a radiant six-stranded chain; a jeweled girdle, a seven-stranded necklace, a hansuli, and a thousand other ornaments.
Golden earrings shine with singular beauty; finger-rings cast their own distinct radiance.
Armlets flash like lightning, exquisitely fashioned; a tinkling girdle closely clasps her lovely waist.
Bracelets, anklets, and delicate foot-ornaments adorn her; look at the sari with its border worked in pearls.
A golden vermilion box holds bright red sindur; says Rama: all the men and women rejoice to see it.
