Translation of page 166

When I look toward the dark beloved, the flavor of the whole world turns insipid. His tyrannous curls lie upon his cheeks, beautifully embodying the splendor of Love.

With a glance filled with affection he steals away my life—I offer myself in sacrifice. Who can understand the mute heart, for whom he alone is the support of life?

The lovely soles of his feet are dyed crimson with lac, driving the heart mad with their redness. Says Sri Ramaji: the tender bridegroom is forever the entire treasure of my life.

Pada 304

His enormous eyes have driven us mad.

Every lane in Mithila hums with talk of them; they have caused an uproar in every home. Restless and crazed, everyone sits clutching her heart—those eyes have awakened their magic.

Married women are helpless and unmarried girls are elated, wandering about in a golden daze. Hearing of him, even gentle saints rush out to look; his sidelong glance strikes like a spear.

The poisonous eyes of the Prince of Awadh are city bandits—they have taken up pursuit behind us.

Pada 305

I offer body, mind, and everything I possess to the beloved prince Raghubara.

A golden jeweled crown shines upon his head, and his sehra sways over the moon-face of that charming prince. His great rose-tinted eyes are filled with intoxication; their kohl-darkened glance works magic upon Mithila’s women.

Black curls lie beside his earrings like young serpents guarding the treasure that belongs to beloved Sita. As he smiles, betel-redness shines upon his lips; every heart aches when the pearl at his nose trembles.

His body is dark, his robe saffron-colored,
