Pada 287
How singularly captivating this groom appears, dear friend! His jeweled crown and peacock plume sway; their radiance spills in every direction. His curling locks dance, his brow tilts playfully, and his glance seems to kiss the eyes. The saffron line and necklace shine; the jeweled chain at his throat glitters. His lovely nose-jewel dances, and the very sight of it makes the heart leap. His lips are full, his gentle smile sweet; all Mithila goes weak before him. Through Sita he has become our honored guest, and Mod dances in delight.
Pada 288
When my eyes met Sita's bridegroom, every thread of worldly shame and social restraint snapped at once. The dark veil of time, karma, and overpowering delusion vanished the instant his beauty spread before me. Each clever woman plundered immeasurable joy according to her own taste. For Mod-ali, the dark one is the treasure of life itself—the life-restoring herb.
Pada 289
Look upon him, look upon him, sister! Hari himself has become greener beside Vaidehi, his bride. Even Shesha and Sharada cannot begin to describe his beauty. Her beloved shines beside her like the light of the world. The cherished lover dwells with his cherished beloved, each contained within the other. My fair Sita is the moon, and her beloved the moon-struck chakora bird. By supreme fortune this union has come to pass—may you always remain just so. Blessed is Mithila, blessed are Mod and Maithili, and blessed are all of us sisters!
