Translation of page 158

With a sidelong glance and gentle smile, he has driven a dagger into my heart. My mind is caught in his curls; I retain no awareness of my body. Dyed in his dark color, dear friend, even my veil has turned dark. My charming, artful beloved gives me no peace—he has taken my heart for his plaything.

Pada 282

The two are playing within my eyes. Eating paan and smiling enchantingly, they delight together in the inner courtyard. Drinking the sweetness of each other's beauty and paan, ecstasy spreads through every limb. The two unite in ever-new play, thrilled by the freshness of youth. However long they gaze upon one another, neither heart finds satisfaction. Each circles an offering around the other and drinks, absorbed from moment to moment. Drinking the nectar of each other's lips, they clasp one another in a close embrace. This play of the divine pair shines on, dwelling in their companion's eyes. The joyous rasa of beloved and lover cannot be expressed in words.

Pada 283

The two wage battle with their eyes. Face meeting face, attraction grows fourfold and delight reaches its fullness. Each draws the paired bows of the brows and sends eye-arrows that massacre the heart. Sidelong glances fly from both sides, swift as lightning—Kama himself seems to be loosed. The marvelous bullets of their pupils strike home within each other. Feelings clash like warriors, proclaiming love in their desire to conquer the abode of joy.
