Translation of page 157

To whom shall I tell my sorrow, dear friend? The whole night passes in restless tossing. Within Sia-ali's heart, those two love-filled eyes pierce without cease.

Pada 278

I offer myself to that sidelong glance! I offer myself to his gentle speech and swaying gait—to the enchanting one filled with rasa. I offer myself to the dark collyrium of his eyes, to the dangling curls upon his face. I offer myself to those heart-stealing glances—to the dancing jewel upon his nose. Sia-ali offers herself to that dark face, to the yellow cloth that adorns him.

Pada 279

Sita's beloved has become the bridegroom today. His crown, saffron robe, and jeweled necklace have stolen my heart. Blessed is Mithilesha's darling, whom he has taken into a full embrace. Dāmpati-ali offers body, mind, wealth—everything—to the beauty of this divine pair.

Pada 280

Beloved, behold Sita's bridegroom. A sparkling jeweled crown rests upon him, and an incomparable veil of pearls. Yellow garments shine upon his dark body, and his ornaments are utterly captivating. He eats paan, smiles softly, speaks sweetly, and sends his eyes roaming. Gop-ali has been sold without a price by the sudden fall of that gaze.

Pada 281

My gaze wanders here and there; I have forgotten the path to my own home.
