I cannot endure the wound of his glance; even his faint smile pierces me. Siya Ali says: Ayodhya’s beloved has entered and settled within my heart, and will not heed a word I say.
Pada 267
“Beloved, by what means can I keep you with me? If I hold you within my heart, my eyes long for you; if I hold you in my eyes, my heart trembles. Neither way allows the mind to rest. Darling, tell me—how can we meet? Dark one, join eye to eye and heart to heart; place your throat against my throat. Siya Ali says: meet me in this way, and when every limb touches, the burning will subside.”
Pada 268
“This alone my mind desires day and night: to behold my beloved, my very life. Let my eyes see nothing else; moment by moment I shall arrange my beloved’s curls. I shall drink the sweetness of the divine couple, laughing as I offer body and mind. I shall string the flower of my life upon the thread of love and place that garland around the couple’s necks. Siya Ali says: clasping the treasure of my life to my breast, I shall cast aside every worldly bond.”
Pada 269
“Your beauty has lured me into its lane; now that I have come, I stand bewildered. Is its secret in the folds of your turban, or in the dark curls upon your brow? Is it in the corners of your eyes, or in that gentle smile? Is it in the yellow garment tied about your waist, or in the fluttering end of your scarf? Priya Ali says: I am defeated by looking; I cannot tell which feature is the true sign of your beauty.”
Pada 270
“I shall steal you away and hide you within my eyes. Even if millions plead, I shall never let you go; I shall keep your heart joined to my heart.”
