Pada 238

The dark beloved’s eyebrow shines like a bow; in a single instant it wounds a woman, leaving no life within her body. Friend, every lovely woman who dwells in Mithila has been captivated by the beloved’s smile. Mohani Ali says: the young gallant’s eyes are the arrows of Manmatha himself.

Pada 239

His two eyes are swords tempered in poison. When they strike, waves surge through the heart— such is the astonishing sharpness of their edge! Wounded, I wander through the lanes, unable to maintain control of my body. The charming gallant of Ayodhya, the heart’s beloved, brings everyone beneath his sway.

Pada 240

The darling’s locks are filled with fragrance; friend, they tumble here and there across his lovely cheeks. Their devastating beauty has driven me mad. Mohani Ali says: every moment they are the sharpened sword of the executioner.

Pada 241

“Friend, he has snared my deer-like mind in the net of his curling locks. Ayodhya’s darling has wounded me with the spears of his eyes. Love has fastened itself to that youth, and now it cannot be released. Mohani Ali, go and carry this message from me to my darling.”

Pada 242

The beloved of Ayodhya has struck this lovelorn woman with the dagger of his eyes. Darling friend, that handsome young prince has lodged within both my eyes.
