Translation of page 136

Worldly pleasures and splendor are forgotten; desire has perished, and the world’s judgment seems hollow. I have entered an ocean of ever-new love and dance in affection at my Beloved’s feet, anklets ringing.

Abandoning every other discipline, I have taken the sacred rule of immersing myself in the Divine Couple’s name. Says Yugal-ananya Sharan: I seek only to remain absorbed in contemplation of Sita’s Lord.

Pada 209

The wondrous prince of Awadh has taken up residence in my eyes.

Before the delightful moon of Ramachandra, even the autumn moon appears pale. He sits upon a jewel-studded throne, a splendid crest rising upon his crown.

A pearl necklace shines upon his breast, and a yellow garment is fastened around his waist. Janaka’s Daughter sits radiant at his left, surpassing moonlight itself.

Says Ramcharan: I offer myself to the sight of his jeweled ornaments, as a companion smiles softly.

Pada 210

Beloved, your eyes have stolen away my lovely heart.

His shapely ears and broad, noble features reveal a hundred thousand fresh charms each moment. Their beauty is the very essence of beauty, defeating the lotus, wagtail, antelope, and fish.

My eyes find no rest after beholding you; you have made me utterly mad. Says Kovid Paramananda: fate has performed a wonder in giving me this aching sorrow.

Pada 211

Colorful bridegroom, your smile has become a messenger.

It has entered every home in Mithila, and everyone whispers about it. Bringing every refined young woman beneath its sway, it leaves scarcely any veil of modesty intact.

Says Rasika Ali: the force of such love has become irresistible.
