Ātma-sambandha is the beginningless relationship between the individual self and the Supreme Self; this book is its mirror, that is, something that makes it visible. At the beginning, when a noble disposition awakens in the living being, one starts to see worldly pleasure—material and made of ignorance—as suffering. To remove it, one seeks the company of great souls. Then, having obtained the sight of a true knower in an utterly pure, secluded, and serene place—one who bears the Śrī Sītā-Rāma seal, the six upright Vaiṣṇava marks, and, at the neck, tulasī—
