And Then, Spontaneous Laughter.... - 8th August 2016
Saar (Essence)
Ananta explains that while spiritual inquiry naturally reveals inherent joy and peace, he avoids emphasizing these states to prevent the mind from turning them into expectations or benchmarks for spiritual progress.
As we leave the realm of thought, we find that which is inherently peaceful, joyful, and loving.
The mind tries to regain control through judgment when spontaneous laughter or tears erupt without mental cause.
We don't stress on joy because the 'checker guy' uses it to judge your practice during times of grief.

I got a good weekend. This is the funny thing, because sometimes when someone reads a transcript... I'll be here. Sometimes when we talk about awareness and consciousness, we feel like it's so joyless, boring, intellectual stuff. It's only here that we seem to have something. Have you seen this kind of spontaneous laughter with no seeming cause? As we leave the realm of thought, leave it behind, you find that which is inherently peaceful, joyful, loving. And yet, we don't openly stress on that aspect so much because that also becomes an object of the mind; it becomes an expectation from the moment.
So, if I was to just keep saying that through the inquiry then you find so much joy and peace, then the checker guy will keep checking for how much joy is there. When there are times of suffering, when there are times of grief, it will say, 'See, you're not... either you're not doing it right, or if you are not doing it right, or you're with the wrong Guru, or in the wrong Satsang.' There is offering new things; we don't actually end up in the mind. So, we don't stress on this aspect of it so much, and yet it is only in Satsang I found this time of spontaneous eruption of laughter. Of course, it is the same with eruptions of crying. Why is this happening? The mind is saying, 'What are you doing? Don't you laugh apart? Control yourself.' The mind is fearful that this expression now is continuing without any sense of mental control, you see? So, it tries to control yourself, or just the mind crying out to try to regain some control, you see.
