Abhanga 921The Saints

Their Services to Men

English Translation · I.P. 921

SINCE we should be merciful to all creatures, we should treat each other mercifully, yet honour the saints with your whole heart. If you disdain my preaching, you will enter the path that leads to hell. The diamond, the parisa, and the mohara exist along with other stones, but there is no such kinship between the saints and common men. None is baser than he who esteems alike a village stream, the Ganges and the sea. There are constellations without number; but they cannot be counted equal to the sun and moon. Tuk& says, THEIR SERVICES TO MEN 299 That which is not malleable is not Phirangi iron, it is cast-iron.

Tr. J. Nelson Fraser & K.B. Marathe (1909)
