That We Should Renounce It

English Translation · I.P. 854

THESE are all devices of the belly; we must not look upon them wistfully; the object of desire remains such to the end. From things material how can spiritual gains proceed? The heart remains desirous, but it asks in vain from this idle hypocrite. Such men rehearse the life and actions of God; but these are idle arts to captivate others. Tuka says, If secret desires reside in the spirit, then deceiver and deceived go to hell together.
