Abhanga 737The Moral Ideal

General

English Translation · I.P. 737

MAKE your mind clear; from the mind comes everything that is attained; be it liberation or bondage, pleasure, satisfaction, or desire. It is THOSE ARE FEW WHO ATTAIN the mind that creates an image; therein the mind worships itself. It is by the mind that desires are fulfilled; the mind is the mother of all things; the mind is teacher and pupil; the mind is its own servant. The mind, if it is clear within itself, confers on itself salvation or destruction. O holy and learned men, all who read or speak, listen to my words. Tuka says, There is no other God than the mind.

Tr. J. Nelson Fraser & K.B. Marathe (1909)
