Abhanga 298The Nature of God

God's Generosity and Condescension

English Translation · I.P. 298

THE wishing-tree despises not those who apply to it; but you arc bettor than all wishing-trees, for you require no application. O listen! if you bestow a gift, it awakens one to a notion of pride; thus Tuka. with complaints like these, cries out for no gift but yourself.

Tr. J. Nelson Fraser & K.B. Marathe (1909)
