From today I have made my vow, taken my obstinate stand, and fallen at Rāma's door. I will not rise for the rest of my life until you say, ‘You are mine’; I have declared this on an oath by the Lord. (1) Yama's servants grew weary of striking me again and again, yet I did not move when they tried to drive me away. Taking birth repeatedly in the world, I endured the womb's unbearable torment; only then did I scorn hell and emerge from it. (2) I have become importunate: I shall leave only after obtaining the thing for which I have planted myself here. You are compassionate, so you will have to grant it; blessed Lord, do not delay, for I am wasting away in shame. (3) If you are embarrassed to say it publicly because I am filled with offenses, then graciously accept Tulsi inwardly. I tremble when I behold the Kali age. (4)
