My body is pure, my mind affectionate, and with my mouth I say, ‘I am a servant of Sītā's Beloved.’ By what misfortune I do not know this: no bond and no love can be good unless it is with the Lord. (1) When I seek water, I obtain fire; nectar turns into poison. What the saints have said of the Kali age's crooked ways is exactly true: I have no understanding with which to cross its darkness. (2) Knowing that I am blind, I prepare collyrium from the ghee of a tigress of the forest. When I hear this diseased remedy and reflect upon it rightly, my own heart steals away my understanding and strength. (3) I am ashamed to say this to the Lord—may I not fall flat again. Blessed Lord, call me near and restrain me, so that Tulsi's dull mind may now abandon this deluded notion. (4)
