If Your Welfare Is Seen to Lie with Him

आपनो हित रावरेसों जो पै सूझै। तौ जनु तनुपर अछत सीस सुधि क्यों कबंध ज्यों जूझै॥ १॥ निज अवगुन, गुन राम! रावरे लखि-सुनि मति-मन रूझै। रहनि-कहनि-समुझनि तुलसीकी को कृपालु बिनु बूझै॥ २॥

If one sees that one’s own welfare lies with you, then while the head remains upon the body, why should one fight senselessly like the headless Kabandha? (1) Seeing and hearing of my faults and your virtues, O Rāma, my understanding and mind draw back. Who but the Compassionate One can comprehend Tulsi’s way of living, speaking, and understanding? (2)
