जो पै जिय जानकी-नाथ न जाने। तौ सब करम-धरम श्रमदायक ऐसेइ कहत सयाने॥ १॥ जे सुर, सिद्ध, मुनीस, जोगबिद बेद-पुरान बखाने। पूजा लेत, देत पलटे सुख हानि-लाभ अनुमाने॥ २॥ काको नाम धोखेहू सुमिरत पातकपुंज पराने। बिप्र-बधिक, गज-गीध कोटि खल कौनके पेट समाने॥ ३॥ मेरु-से दोष दूरि करि जनके, रेनु-से गुन उर आने। तुलसिदास तेहि सकल आस तजि भजहि न अजहुँ अयाने॥ ४॥
If the heart does not know Jānakī’s Lord, then all rites and duties merely bring toil—the wise say exactly this. (1) The gods, perfected beings, lordly sages, and knowers of yoga whom the Vedas and Purāṇas praise accept worship and give pleasure in return, calculating their loss and gain. (2) Whose name, even remembered by accident, makes heaps of sin flee? The brahmin, the hunter, the elephant, the vulture, and millions of the wicked—who took them all within himself? (3) He casts his servant’s mountain-like faults far away and brings dust-like virtues into his heart. Tulsi, forsaking every other hope, why do you not worship him even now, O fool? (4)
