Take care of me, King of Kosala! Apart from the Name, I have no other place, no other goal, and no other support. (1) Understanding your own servant, you yourself secure his welfare as neither father nor mother can. Rama, your Name is my guru, god, master, friend, and helper. (2) In Rama’s kingdom not even the shadow of a polluted mind’s deceit can operate. Angered by this, cowardly Kali strikes wounds even upon one already dead. (3) Just as a jackal kills a frog to avenge its enmity with a lion, so, knowing me to be Rama’s slave, Kali rains vile blows upon me in vain. (4) Hearing of his deceitful deeds, countless injustices, and calamities, Parīkṣit, though dwelling happily in Hari’s city, is filled with regret. (5) Ocean of compassion, look upon me, so that the suffering of your servant’s heart may end. God, compassionate to the poor, I have come for refuge so that I may behold you. (6) If, having called him near, you will not restrain him—bless me!—nor strike him because of his cries, Hanuman will look upon him as a lion looks upon a cow’s face. (7) With face red, brows fearsome, and tawny eyes stained by anger, the caprice of Kali’s restless heart will subside when he remembers the heroic son of the Wind. (8) Hearing my petition, Rama smiled and explained the meaning of its words to his younger brother. Lakṣmaṇa too laughed and said, ‘Well said’; thus every arrangement succeeded. (9) He gave justice to the poor man; hearing it, congratulations rang through the homes of the good. Troubles and anxieties, vile deceits, and hordes of sins disappeared. (10) Seeing the transcendent, sinless, guileless Lord’s love and confidence toward his servant, the sages, servant Tulsi says, proclaim, ‘Victory, victory to the widely praised Lord!’ (11)
