Even now, it will benefit you to understand your own deeds and Rama’s deeds. Where are you, and where is the Lord of Kosala? What does everyone call you? (1) When did he, pleased, favor you, and when did he, angered, abuse you? Look at your face in the mirror; reflect well and admit defeat in your heart. (2) The ruin of many births takes him less than half a moment to repair. Who has said with love, ‘Protect me, Treasury of Grace,’ whom Rama did not make holy? (3) One who hears the stories of Valmiki and the boatman, and the honoring of monkeys, forest woman, and bears, yet does not turn toward Rama—who can instruct that one in wisdom? (4) What service did Sugriva render, what rule of love did he keep? Yet Rama killed Sugriva’s brother like a hunter—a deed that sounds pleasing to no one. (5) What worship did Vibhishana perform, and what reward did the King of Raghu give him? Rama, patron of the poor, greatly cherishes the honor of his arm and pledged word. (6) Repeat Raghunatha’s name and admit no other discussion. He alone is gracious-faced, joy-giving, master, wise, mighty, compassionate, and protector of those who bow. (7) Who has sung the multitude of Rama’s virtues with tear-filled eyes, choked speech, an overwhelmed heart, and a thrilled body, whose fear of becoming was not erased? (8) The Lord remembers good and knows all; abandon your former remorse. Tulsi, your acquaintance with Rama is nothing new. (9)
