जो पै जानकिनाथ सों नातो नेहु न नीच। स्वारथ-परमारथ कहा, कलि कुटिल बिगोयो बीच॥ १॥ धरम बरन आश्रमनिके पैयत पोथिही पुरान। करतब बिनु बेष देखिये, ज्यों सरीर बिनु प्रान॥ २॥ बेद बिदित साधन सबै, सुनियत दायक फल चारि। राम-प्रेम बिनु जानिबो जैसे सर-सरिता बिनु बारि॥ ३॥ नाना पथ निरबानके, नाना बिधान बहु भाँति। तुलसी तू मेरे कहे जपु राम-नाम दिन-राति॥ ४॥

Lowly one, if you have neither kinship nor love for Janaki’s Lord, what can become of self-interest or the highest good? Crooked Kali has ruined you midway. (1) The duties of the social orders and stages of life are found only in books and Puranas; costumes without deeds appear like bodies without breath. (2) All the means made known by the Veda are heard to bestow the four fruits; know them without love for Rama to be like lakes and rivers without water. (3) There are many paths to liberation and many kinds of observance. Tulsi, take my counsel: repeat Rama’s name day and night. (4)
