No other trust comes to me. In this Kali age, every tree of discipline seems to bear only the fruit of toil. (1) Austerity, pilgrimage, fasting, giving, sacrifice—let each do whatever pleases him. On taking renunciation, the mind disintegrates like an unbaked pot washed with water. (4) Sages hold many views, and the Puranas show many paths; everywhere there seems to be quarrel. The guru called worship of Rama good, and to me it appears a royal road. (5) Tulsi, without trust and love, whoever wishes to torment himself and die repeatedly may do so. Rama’s name is the ship upon the ocean of becoming; whoever wishes to cross, let him cross. (6)
