Raghunayaka, when, O Lord, will you place that lotus hand upon my head—the hand by which you made distressed servants fearless when, helpless as children, they called your name? (1) With that lotus hand you broke Shiva’s hard bow and removed Janaka’s doubt; with that lotus hand you raised the boatman and embraced him like a brother in supreme love. (2) With that hand, compassionate Lord, you offered the funeral cake to the vulture and gave him your own abode; with that hand you struck down Bali for your servant’s sake and made Sugriva lord of the monkey clan. (3) When frightened Vibhishana came for refuge, with that lotus hand you placed the royal mark upon him; taking bow and arrow in that hand, you slew the demons and gave the gods the gift of fearlessness. (4) The cool, joy-giving shade of that hand destroys sin, affliction, and Maya. Night and day Tulsidas longs for the shade of that lotus hand. (5)
