Tell me, Treasury of Grace, to whom can I speak of this immense adversity born of becoming? All the senses are forever distraught, each enamored of its own nature. (1) Pleasure and wealth, heaven and hell, cling to one continually. Hari, abandoning you, my unfortunate mind labors to obtain those very things. (2) I am exceedingly lowly; hearing that the Lord is compassionate, my mind has grown attached to you. Steadfast Raghubira, if you do not melt, why should pain not seize me? (3) Though I am a dwelling of offenses, Murari is the quieter of pain. This is Tulsidas’s hope: he has delivered many fallen ones. (4)
