बिरद गरीबनिवाज रामको। गावत बेद-पुरान, संभु-सुक, प्रगट प्रभाउ नामको॥ १॥ ध्रुव, प्रह्लाद, बिभीषन, कपिपति, जड़, पतंग, पांडव, सुदामको। लोक सुजस परलोक सुगति, इन्हमें को है राम कामको॥ २॥ गनिका, कोल, किरात, आदिकबि इन्हते अधिक बाम को। बाजिमेध कब कियो अजामिल, गज गायो कब सामको॥ ३॥ छली, मलीन, हीन सब ही अँग, तुलसी सो छीन छामको। नाम-नरेस-प्रताप प्रबल जग, जुग-जुग चालत चामको॥ ४॥
Rama’s renowned title is ‘Protector of the poor.’ Veda and Purana, Shiva and Shuka sing it; the power of his Name stands manifest. (1) Dhruva, Prahlada, Vibhishana, the monkey-king, Jada, the moth, the Pandavas, and Sudama gained fair fame in this world and a good end in the next—who among them was of use to Rama? (2) Courtesan, forest-dweller, hunter, and the first poet—who could be more contrary than these? When did Ajamila perform a horse sacrifice, and when did the elephant sing the Sama Veda? (3) Deceitful, stained, and base in every limb, Tulsi is shriveled and feeble. Mighty in the world is the majesty of the King named Name: through age after age, even leather passes as currency. (4)
