राग ललित खोटो खरो रावरो हौं, रावरी सौं, रावरेसों झूठ क्यों कहोंगो, जानो सब ही के मनको। करम-बचन-हिये, कहौं न कपट किये, ऐसी हठ जैसी गाँठि पानी परे सनकी॥ १॥ दूसरो, भरोसो नाहि बासना उपासनाकी, बासव, बिरंचि सुर-नर-मुनिगनकी। स्वारथके साथी मेरे, हाथी स्वान लेवा देई, काहू तो न पीर रघुबीर! दीन जनको॥ २॥ साँप-सभा साबर लबार भये देव दिब्य, दुसह साँसति कीजै आगे ही या तनकी। साँचे परौं, पाउँ पान, पंचमें पन प्रमान, तुलसी चातक आस राम स्यामघनकी॥ ३॥
Raga Lalita—Good or bad, I am yours—by your own oath. Why would I lie to you, who know every heart? In deed, word and heart, without deceit, I say that I am yours; this resolve is like a knot of hemp tightened by water. (1) I have no trust in another, no desire to worship Indra, Brahma, gods, humans or companies of sages. They are companions only for self-interest: after service like an elephant’s they give a dog’s return. Raghubira, none feels a lowly person’s pain as you do. (2) Divine Lord, if I prove a lying snake-charmer in the assembly of snakes, impose unbearable punishment upon this body before your eyes. If I prove true, may I receive among the council the betel-token that confirms my pledge. Tulsi, the rain-bird, hopes only in Rama, the dark cloud. (3)
