English Translation

The cutting has happened. I have fallen exposed before all. I belong to no one now; I am carried in Your current. This worldly life has withered away; my seat within it is broken. Says Tuka, O God, do not keep me at a distance now.

In Plain Words

The cutting has happened. I have fallen open before everyone. I belong to no one now. I am carried in Your current. This worldly life has withered. My seat in it is broken. Tuka says: God, do not keep me at a distance now.

What it means

Tukaram speaks from the moment the old ties have already snapped. Whatever held him to ordinary life has been cut, and he stands exposed, claimed by no person and no station. He does not grieve this; he reads it as God carrying him away in a current he cannot resist. His one fear is that, having been emptied of every other belonging, he might still be left without God, so he asks only not to be kept at a distance.
