English Translation

What I ask of You, O God, is only the service of Your feet. Even if You offer it, I will not accept miraculous powers, worldly attainments, or the four kinds of liberation. Let me have the company of saints at all times, an abundance of deep love. Says Tuka, the Name is enough; it fulfills all my needs.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

What I beg of You, O God, is only the service of Your feet. Even if You offer them, I will not take riches, powers, or the four kinds of liberation. Give me the company of saints always, and a great abundance of love. Tuka says: the Name is enough; it satisfies all my need.

What it means

Tukaram lays out exactly what he wants and what he refuses. The one thing he asks for is to serve at God's feet, nothing more. He turns down the rewards seekers usually crave: wealth, miraculous powers, even the four kinds of liberation, refusing them outright even if offered. What he asks instead is the constant company of the saints and an overflow of love. The Name of God, he says, already meets every need he has, so there is nothing left to want.
