English Translation

Who had gone traveling from land to land to spread this message? The measuring cup was carried away by the Almighty, my Father. Says Tuka, by this certainty, my fear has been dissolved.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

Who had gone wandering from land to land to spread this message? No one of mine. The measuring cup was carried off by him. The Almighty is my Father. Tuka says: by this certainty my fear has dissolved.

What it means

Tukaram presses the same image of the measuring cup further. He asks who really traveled from country to country to carry his teaching abroad, and answers that he himself did nothing; the cup was simply picked up and carried by God. Calling the Almighty his Father, he places the whole work in stronger hands than his own. Out of that certainty his fear falls away, for if the doing was never his, then neither is the burden, and there is nothing left for him to be afraid of.
