English Translation

Having risen, Tuka went to his own place, and the Lord remained within the temple. The exchange between servant and Master is complete; the mind is at peace through obedience to his command. Hari has reclined upon the serpent-bed of infinity; there is no further task remaining. Tuka put everyone outside as he left and told the people: the Lord is asleep.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

Tuka rose and went to his own place, and God stayed behind in the temple. The service between servant and Master is finished; obeying the command, the mind is at peace. Hari has lain down on the endless serpent-bed; no task is left there now. Tuka put everyone outside and left, and told the people: God is asleep. It is a holy day, a fine day, the great day of Dasara; a good hour has been found, so make good use of it today.

What it means

This closes the cycle of worship at Pandhari: the deity is settled for the night and the worshipper goes home. The peace here comes from obedience, doing what was asked and then letting go, so nothing remains to be done. Hari rests on Shesha, the serpent of infinity, the image of a God wholly at ease. Tuka clears the temple and quietly tells the people the Lord is sleeping, the way one hushes a house around someone resting. The mention of Dasara names the auspicious moment and urges the hearer to seize the rare good hour while it lasts.
