English Translation

The ignorant body has merged into the true Self. All bodily consciousness has come to rest. The support of the nature of pure knowledge has been found, and the inner light of wisdom has been seen. Says Tuka, the mind has settled in its true nature; the body has found rest at Your feet.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

This ignorant body has merged into the true Self. All falling away of the body is over. The bond with the nature of knowledge has been found. Within, I have seen the light of knowledge. Tuka says: the mind has stayed in its own true nature. The body has come to rest at Your feet.

What it means

Tukaram describes the settling that follows realization. The body, which he calls ignorant because it is the seat of not-knowing, has dissolved into the true Self, and with it ends all the anxiety of bodily decline. He has found his union with knowledge itself and seen the inner light of wisdom directly. The result is quiet rather than dramatic: the restless mind simply stays put in its own real nature and stops wandering. He gives the rest a direction, laying the body down at God's feet, so that knowledge and devotion close as one.
