English Translation
Sky-wanderers and fierce powers tremble and even Death and the demons shake with fear before her. She dwells on the banks of the Bhima at Pandharpur. Chant her thousand names in one stream; she drives away evil spirits by her very touch. When Sita was seized, the goddess came roaring with her hair unbound. When Prahlada was tormented by the buffalo-demon, she arrived at once, grinding her teeth in fury. When seven infants of Vasudeva were devoured, she appeared at the fateful hour. When the Pandavas were driven into helpless exile, she rushed to their side and sheltered them. Wherever the name is remembered, she runs of her own accord, seeing only the devotee's faith. Says Tuka, she is our family goddess and our mother; what fear can death or its messengers hold for us?.

When Prahlada was tormented, she came at once against the buffalo-demon, grinding her teeth. When seven children of Vasudeva were devoured, she came at the fated hour for their sake. When the poor Pandavas were driven to wander like the mad, she ran and pulled them out, sheltering them close. Where the Name is remembered, she runs there herself; she does not weigh the lowly, she sees only the faith of the one who calls. Tuka says: the family deity is our Mother. What fear, then, of ghosts, of Death, or of Death's messengers?
What it means
Tukaram piles up rescue after rescue to make one point: the family Goddess comes running to whoever calls her with faith. The threatening powers, demons, even Death, are the ones who tremble, not the devotee. The roll call of the saved, Sita, Prahlada, the children of Vasudeva, the exiled Pandavas, is drawn from the shared store of devotional story, used here as evidence that she answers in the worst hour. The decisive line is that she does not measure a person's lowliness; she looks only at their bhava, their faith. So Tukaram closes without fear: if the Mother is ours, the messengers of Death hold no terror.
