English Translation

Who has ever gone from here empty-handed? Everyone who has come to this place has received. Then what is the hurry now? His concern is for each one. I will not take on any burden for the sake of mere reputation. No great learning is needed. Says Tuka, God need not be sought elsewhere. His presence is already revealed.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

Who has ever left this place empty-handed? Everyone who came here received. So why the hurry now? He cares for each one. I take on no burden just for the sake of a name; no great learning is needed. Tuka says: there is no need to go anywhere. God need not be sought elsewhere; His presence is already here.

What it means

Tukaram steadies the anxious seeker with a plain assurance: nobody who has come to God's door has ever gone away with nothing. Since God carries the concern for each person, there is no cause to rush or to grasp. He refuses to take on burdens merely to build a reputation and insists that no scholarship is required to be received. The closing claim is the boldest one: stop searching elsewhere, because the presence you are looking for is already disclosed right here.
