English Translation

For devotees, there is destiny and present action, but know that accumulated karma no longer exists for them. God himself has become everything, filling both inner and outer. The bonds of the three qualities no longer afflict the devotees of Hari. Whatever they eat, speak, or do, it is all Hari acting through their bodies. Says Tuka, between God and his devotee, there is no separation.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

For devotees there is still destiny and present action, but know this: their stored-up karma is gone. Look, God himself has become everything, filling them within and without. The three qualities no longer bind the devotees of Hari. Whatever they eat or speak or do, it is all Hari acting through their bodies. Tuka says: between God and his devotee there is no separation.

What it means

Tukaram describes what happens to a soul wholly given to Hari. The old accumulated karma that drives rebirth is dissolved; what remains plays out as present life, but its grip is broken. He says God has filled the devotee inside and out, so the three gunas that bind ordinary action no longer touch them. From there he makes the radical claim: their eating, speaking, and doing are Hari acting through them. The point lands in the last line, that for such a devotee there is no gap left between God and the one who loves God.
