English Translation

Here is pure Brahman-knowledge; make the mind attentive. The sun evaporates all waters yet is untouched by their qualities or impurities. It has no hidden dealings with anyone; it shines equally upon all. Says Tuka, this is the truth. See it in this teaching.

In Plain Words

Here is pure Brahman-knowledge. Make the mind attentive. The sun draws up all the waters, yet is not stained by their good or their fault. It has no secret dealing with anyone; it stands equal over all. The truth is just this. Tuka says: see it in this teaching.

What it means

Tukaram offers a single image to carry pure knowledge of Brahman. The sun draws up water from everywhere, clean or foul alike, yet nothing of their quality or impurity clings to it. In the same way the divine has no private favors and no hidden partiality; it shines equally on all. The lesson is that God touches everything yet remains untouched and impartial. Tukaram tells the listener to make the mind attentive and to see this truth held inside the teaching itself.
