English Translation
Do not let the mind be divided; see nothing as separate from God. Let the feet of Vithoba rest in your chitta day and night. One should not come begging or pleading to anyone for devotion to Hari. Says Tuka, be patient, and the gracious Vithai will surely bestow Her mercy.
We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.
In Plain Words
Do not let the mind be divided. See nothing as separate. Keep the feet of Vithoba in your heart, day and night. Do not go begging anyone for devotion to Hari. Tuka says: be patient. The gracious Vithai will give Her mercy.
What it means
Tukaram is laying out the whole discipline of bhakti in a few lines. First, do not split the mind: stop seeing things as separate from God, and let Vithoba's feet stay in your heart through every hour. Then he closes one door that seekers run to: do not go from person to person begging for devotion, as if someone could hand it to you. The only thing asked is patience; the grace is Vithai's to give, and She will give it when the heart waits steady instead of grasping.
