Says Tuka, at the hour of death, the only true companion is Vitthal. Hold fast to Him.
We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.
In Plain Words
Tuka says: at the hour of death, your only true companion is Vitthal. Hold fast to him.
What it means
Tukaram strips away every other support a person leans on and names the one that will still be there at the end. At the hour of death, friends, kin, and possessions all fall away; only Vitthal remains as a real companion. So the instruction is plain and urgent: take hold of him now, and do not let go.
Appeals and Exhortations
Direct calls to action: wake up, seek God, do not waste this human birth.
