English Translation

Let my deeds burn. All the fuss I made was in vain. Whatever dispute I raised never came to fruition in experience. How now can I give patience to this mind? O Narayana, what You have ordained must simply be accepted. I was made virtuous only to recognize my own faults. The fault of "mine, mine" sits stubborn and strong within. Says Tuka, O compassionate Keshiraja, how beautiful this tender care You have kept for me until the very end.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

Let my deeds burn. All the fuss I made was for nothing. Whatever quarrel I raised never came true in my own experience. How can I steady this mind now? O Narayana, whatever You have set in motion, that must be accepted. I was made virtuous only so that I would see my own faults. The fault of "mine, mine" sits stubborn and strong inside me. Tuka says: O compassionate Keshiraja, how beautifully You have tended this love of mine, right to the very end.

What it means

Tukaram is owning that all his striving and arguing came to nothing in actual experience, and he stops fighting it. He hands the steadying of his restless mind over to Narayana, accepting whatever God has ordained. Then he names the sharp turn: the very virtue he was given was a tool to expose his own fault, the deep, stubborn grip of "mine, mine." He ends not in despair but in gratitude, seeing that God's tender care held him all the way to the end.
