Ravana Seeks Victory Over Rama Through a Secret Sacrifice

Back in Lanka, Ravana wakes from the ruin of the duel and begins a sacrifice. The king who has lost chariots, drivers, weapons, and the command of his field now turns toward ritual power.

The fire may be kindled and the rite performed with concentration, yet its purpose remains opposition to Rama. Tulsidas therefore names the contradiction directly. Ravana is a fool seeking victory against the very Lord from whom the efficacy of every power and every sacred act must arise.

Obstinacy holds him inside the impossible intention. Humiliation does not become surrender, and knowledge does not become wisdom. He treats sacrifice as another weapon the separate will might acquire and aim at its source. The ritual chamber may look solemn, but the heart at its center continues the same battle that has already shattered around him.

A sacred fire cannot illumine the will that feeds it only to continue its refusal of Rama.
