Angada Kicks the False Stillness at the Center of Ravana's Sacrifice

Vibhishana learns the purpose of Ravana's hidden rite and goes at once to Raghupati. If the sacrifice reaches completion, he warns, the unfortunate king will become invincible and will not die. He asks Rama to send swift vanara warriors before the fire can seal that result.
At dawn the Lord dispatches his champions. Hanuman, Angada, and the others leap into Lanka as though entering a field of play. Without fear they pass into Ravana's palace and find him seated before the sacrifice. Anger rises through the whole company at the sight of the king who fled combat and now sits in the absorbed posture of a crane pretending to meditate.
Angada names the false stillness and kicks Ravana. The king does not even look up. His mind remains fastened to the benefit he hopes to extract from the rite. Around him the vanaras bring Rama's fearless movement into a chamber built upon secrecy and selfish purpose, testing whether concentration severed from truth can survive the touch of living dharma.
Angada's foot strikes the difference between true stillness and a mind frozen around its own advantage.

इहाँ बिभीषन सब सुधि पाई। सपदि जाइ रघुपतिहि सुनाई।। नाथ करइ रावन एक जागा। सिद्ध भएँ नहिं मरिहि अभागा।। पठवहु नाथ बेगि भट बंदर। करहिं बिधंस आव दसकंधर।। प्रात होत प्रभु सुभट पठाए। हनुमदादि अंगद सब धाए।। कौतुक कूदि चढ़े कपि लंका। पैठे रावन भवन असंका।। जग्य करत जबहीं सो देखा। सकल कपिन्ह भा क्रोध बिसेषा।। रन ते निलज भाजि गृह आवा। इहाँ आइ बक ध्यान लगावा।। अस कहि अंगद मारा लाता। चितव न सठ स्वारथ मन राता।।
Here Vibhishana learned all the details and went at once to inform Raghupati. 'O Lord, Ravana is performing a yajna. If it is completed, that wretched one will become invincible and immortal.' 'Send brave vanara warriors quickly, O Lord, to destroy it before Dashandhara can finish.' At dawn the Lord dispatched his finest warriors. Hanuman, Angada and all the rest rushed forward. With playful leaps the monkeys bounded into Lanka, entering Ravana's palace without a trace of fear. The moment they saw him performing the sacrifice, all the monkeys blazed with fury. 'This shameless coward fled the battlefield and came home, and now he sits here in the false meditation of a baka (crane)!' Saying this, Angada kicked him hard. But the fool, absorbed in selfish scheming, did not even glance up.
